Hillsborough and Judicial Review

A short story for students struggling for a recent example of judicial review. The new Hillsborough inquests came on the back of ruling in 2012 to quash the original verdicts and the current inquest, in a purpose built court room and currently running at a cost of more than £16m is being heard in front of Lord Justice Goldring.

This is both a useful and recent example for both pressure groups (the Hillsborough Family Support Group has been a constant campaigner for ‘justice for the 96’) and for the role of the judiciary within the UK.
