The importance of congressional leadership occasionally raises it’s head, and there is already a blog post below on John Boehner retaking the leadership of the House under fire from his own side. In a fascinating turn however, having taken the leadership, Boehner is out for revenge. Almost immediately, two of those who voted against him were removed from the Rules Committee, a hugely influential committee in the House. This example of the power and influence of the Speaker serves to underline his importance, a theoretical point that most students can outline but fail to support with real world examples.
