The impact of devolution

Devolution in the UK has been much in the news given the Scottish referendum of last year. Yet, when students come to assess the impact of it, they lack examples of what devolved bodies have actually achieved. In these two stories, there are clear and up to date examples of the role of devolved assemblies in their governance – in one, Scotland has given free school meals to all children under 8, and in the other, while England is widening the screening of diseases in babies, Wales is not doing so until later in January and Scotland and Northern Ireland have not made it clear whether they plan to do so at all.
