Obama’s executive order removing the threat of deportation for 5 million immigrants in the US was hugely controversial; it arguably circumvented the Constitution, trod on the rights of Congress and states and invoked a heated debate between the two parties. Unsurprisingly, a lawsuit was likely to follow; it is being reported that 17 states have now signed up to a law suit to sue Obama over this executive order. Great evidence for the role of federalism in America (states vs. federal govt), for the powers of the executive and for the US Constitution, which forms the basis of this case.
