Just an update – following Obama’s announcement that he would put immigration changes through by using executive order, the bitter partisan rivalry has shown itself. It is a bold move by Obama, particularly to claim he is doing this as Congress have failed, before the new Congress even gets in. Nonetheless, it has ignited Congress – “Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), the incoming Senate majority leader, compared Obama’s signing of an executive order on immigration to “waving a red flag in front of a bull.” Speaker John A. Boehner (R-Ohio) said Obama will “burn himself” if he moves forward.”

This article also tracks some of the failures of immigration reform in recent years and is therefore crucial information for the Unit 3 topic of civil rights.
