The West Lothian Question

Politics teachers have been teaching about the West Lothian Question for years now, but it has been interesting to see it in the news so much following the Scottish Referendum. The idea that Scottish (or Welsh or Irish MPs) can vote on matter which only affect England has often caused consternation – the graph in this article regarding the University Tuition Fee vote makes for interesting reading! Nonetheless, with UKIP on the prowl for votes and Cameron under fire from within his own party, the search for an answer to this question is on once again. As well as using this for an example within the Electoral Systems topic, it could also be used in the Democracy topic when discussing just how democratic the UK actually is.
