Following the earlier blog post about the importance of Select Committees within Parliament as a way to scrutinise the government (you MUST understand the difference between government and Parliament), it is notable today that Theresa May has announced the Passport Office will now be brought back under ministerial control, as the Home Affairs Select Committee recommended earlier this week. While they might not have the power to force the government to act, through their expertise, use of the media and support, they do seem to have enacted a change and this is the essence of scrutiny and accountability. Do not confuse lack of actual force with lack of ability to get change.
