Party infighting and leadership battles – Gove or May?

The ‘trojan horse’ plot in Birmingham schools brought to light a secondary, but nonetheless important, issue. It led to a very public spat between Theresa May and Michael Gove – two future potential frontrunners for Tory Party leadership. This is a great example for a number of reasons – the danger of having ‘big beasts’ in your Cabinet, the failure of Cabinet Collective Responsibility and party factionalism to name but a few – and is thoroughly recommended reading for the Unit 2 exam.
