John Boehner, the Speaker of the House of Representatives is suing President Obama for overstepping his executive powers. He assures the public this is not a joke, or a stunt, but that he feels “In my view, the President has not faithfully executed the laws when it comes to a range of issues”.

This is a really useful example is assessing the checks and balances of power that are laid out in the US Constitution (and, further to this, Sarah Palin has also called for the impeachment of Obama! http://www.politico.com/story/2014/07/sarah-palin-impeach-barack-obama-108658.html) and in comparing the power of Congress and the President. Equally, it is a useful example looking at divided government – certainly, this does meet the Founding Fathers’ intent of preventing an overly-powerful President, but fails miserably at achieving their much hoped for bipartisanship.
