The badger cull of 2013 should already be engrained into your mind as one of the go-to examples for Pressure Groups (Fracking being another one). In this article, there is once again a wealth of examples of pressure groups. Following the cull, the government ordered a review into the cull which has reported that, largely, the cull was a failure. It failed both in number of badgers killed and in the ‘humaneness test’ – 18% of badgers took more than 5 minutes to die. Once again here we have opposition pressure groups such as the NFU and the British Veterinary Association, providing great evidence to compare and contrast the importance of information providers, of insider/outsiders or of public interest (remembering that the badger cull e-petition has more signitures than any other so far, with over 300,000) as well as garnering celebrity support from Brian May. The exam board are looking for up to date examples, and this is it!
