Committees in Congress – Scrutiny/Investigations

15 May 13 – Eric Holder gets grilled on the Hill

Committees and Congress are never a popular topic. However they are blessedly short and, with the right detail, can be a simple question. Here, there is a great example of a Committee carrying out it’s investigative function, grilling AG Eric Holder over the conduct of the Justice Department (therefore also a useful example over the limited control a President has over the Federal Bureaucracy). Notably, this is front page news on Politico, so as well as the investigative function being important, it should also be noted that the media outlets pay considerable attention to what goes on in committee (see also the recent goings-on in the Judiciary Committee in the Senate over Immigration) therefore making them important.
