Everywhere the traditional political parties have turned in the last few months they have been confronted with pictures of Nigel Farage celebrating. With UKIP being more widely touted as a ‘real’ political player rather than the ‘clowns’ of UK politics, this article looks at their rise to the recent local election successes. Great examples for the importance of PR systems, which allowed them to make a real name for themselves, as well as voter apathy and voter dealignment.
